Thanet in a year…………..

November 15, 2013 by thecurioinmargate

This volume of The Curio represents a year of discovery & development in Thanet. I have documented beautiful & interesting spaces, incredible heritage & architecture, amazing people who live & work in one of the most vibrant of seaside locations & things that might otherwise go unnoticed. Each & every day I discover something new – for a small place there is a lot to talk about, to be proud of & to look forward to. There are still many […]

.dash………………….

August 30, 2013 by thecurioinmargate

Who are you?  We are .dash, an experimental theatre company. Two of our team also manage the Tom Thumb Theatre. Why Cliftonville & the Pettmans building for the location of your play?  We are head over heels enamoured with the Tom Thumb, but being one of the smallest theatre’s in the country ‘And Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out’ simply would not fit in it (it features a 30m Hornby train set & projections 10m wide). We were adamant we wanted to […]

The Chapel………..

June 21, 2013 by thecurioinmargate

Who are you? I’m Julian Newick, owner of The Lifeboat Ale And Cider House in Margate and The Chapel in Broadstairs. Why Broadstairs? Question should perhaps be “Why Margate?” as that came first. Well, I wanted to run a business close to home in Cliftonville, employ local people and sell local produce. Margate was the only choice for me, and it turned out to be the right choice. Margate’s come such a long way in the last three years! In […]

Wyatt & Jones………………

June 7, 2013 by thecurioinmargate

Who are you? Jan Wyatt. Owner of a restaurant, and therefore partner to a neglected woman. Father of five and master of none. Why Broadstairs? Beautiful beaches and friendly faces. First Thanet memory? Driving down the Thanet Way thinking I was driving over the edge of the world. Then arriving, looking out over Viking Bay. It was love at first sight. Was for me anyway. How do you define style? If you look like you are trying too hard, you […]

The Tom Thumb Theatre & Fin Bar

March 28, 2013 by thecurioinmargate

Who are you?  Eoin Furbank and Jessica Jordan-Wrench.  Why Margate?  Because it’s beautiful, exciting, exhilarating and probably the most interesting place in the UK right now. First Margate memory?  Standing on the Cliftonville promenade in the early hours of a winter morning, dodging waves crashing over the wall, wondering what we would find when the sun came up. What is your definition of Style?  Don Van Vliet (AKA Captain Beefheart) – http://www.corbijn.co.uk/page_photo_black_beefheart.htm  Best & worst thing about renovating the new bar?  Time and money limitations meant […]
